Press Release Body: Mount Pleasant, S.C. (September 30, 2008) – Do you have trouble
throwing away old birthday cards from friends? What about keeping track of daily
events and appointments? Then take time out of your busy day, err… if you can
remember what you were supposed to be doing in the first place, and get yourself
organized, because October 5 is the beginning of Get Organized Week!

Sylvan Dell Publishing can help youngsters develop important organization skills
with its new release, Sort It Out! Written by Barbara Mariconda and illustrated by
Sherry Rogers, Sort It Out! is the story of Packy the Packrat’s collection of things
and his mother’s demand to get organized! Packy has to sort his collections into
groups to figure out how to store and put away his favorite possessions. But some
of his favorite trinkets are disappearing—who could be taking them? Sort it Out! is
an easy introduction into the critical skills of classification imperative to any
math and science education.

FUN FACTS from Sort it Out!:
• People sort collections all the time, usually by like characteristics, or “sorting
by attributes.”
• Scientists sort things into groups, too, starting with asking if something is
living or non-living.
• Any living or once-living thing is classified in a “kingdom” based on the
characteristics it shares with other living or once-living things.
ACTIVITIES from Sort it Out!:
• Help Packy decide which of his trinkets are either non-living, animals, or plants.
• Analyze different objects for their similarities and differences.
• Learn how authors use words to paint a picture within a story.
